How to choose a large dining table

• Room size: leave at least 80 cm between the table and the wall on every side, so chairs can be pulled out.
• Seats: each person needs about 60 cm of table edge. Three people fit along each side of a 200 cm table.
• Shape: an oval table has no corners, so it is easier to walk around in a narrower room.
• Legs or pedestal: a central foot leaves more room for knees and extra chairs.

Common mistakes when choosing a large dining table

• Measuring only the table: with chairs pulled out, a 200 cm table needs a room of about 360 cm long.
• Too many chairs: squeezing in one more chair per side leaves everyone too little room.
• Forgetting the route in: check that a long top fits through the door and up the stairs.

Caring for your dining table
