How to choose bed parts

• For drawers, measure the gap: measure from the floor to the lowest point under the bed, including any middle legs. Then compare it with the drawer height, castors included.
• Leave a little spare room: one or two centimetres above the drawer stops it scraping the frame.
• For legs, measure at the centre: measure from the floor to the underside of the base in the middle. Then choose the 21 to 25 cm or 27 to 30 cm pair. Neither fits a gap of 25 to 27 cm.

Common mistakes when choosing bed parts

• Measuring only at the edge: middle legs and cross bars often hang lower than the side rails. A drawer that fits at the edge can still get stuck.
• Measuring on carpet without pressing down: press the tape through the pile to the floor. A loaded drawer sinks into soft carpet.
• Expecting legs to raise the bed: middle legs support the base. They do not lift the bed.

Dimensions and materials

• Drawers: about 100 to 210 cm long, and most are 18 to 20 cm high.
• Legs: sold as a pair, in two adjustable sizes.
• Materials: MDF (wood fibreboard) or solid pine drawers, and metal legs.
• Extras: most drawers roll on castors. You fit the legs yourself.

Caring for your bed parts

Wipe the metal legs with a dry or slightly damp cloth, without harsh cleaners. Check the screws now and then and tighten them if needed.
