Single Beds
25 resultsOur single beds almost all take a 90x200 mattress. Choose a plain metal or fabric frame, or one of our children's beds shaped like a car or a tipi. For guests, there is also a folding bed. For more width, see our 140x200 beds.
How to choose a single bed
- Match the mattress to the frame: a single bed is usually 90x200. The mattress must fit the frame exactly, or it will shift or hang over the side.
- Check the sleeping height: the top of the mattress should be at about knee height. Add the mattress thickness to the frame height.
- Look at the base: most of our single beds include a slatted base. Check that the slat gaps suit your mattress, usually about 6 to 7 cm at most.
- Plan for guests: a folding bed is handy for occasional guests. For a guest who stays often, a proper single bed is more comfortable.
Common mistakes when choosing a single bed
- A mattress that does not match: even a few centimetres too small leaves a gap where the mattress slides. Buy the mattress in the bed's exact size.
- Forgetting where the folding bed goes: check its folded size against the cupboard or corner where you will store it.
- Measuring only the mattress: the frame is bigger, and car beds are much longer. Measure the room against the frame.
What size single bed for a small bedroom?
A 90x200 bed is the standard choice and needs a floor space of only about 1 metre by just over 2 metres. Leave at least 60 cm free on the side you get in from. For a spare room, a folding bed folds away when guests leave. Bed drawers can replace a dresser.
