How to choose a coffee table

• Height: choose a table about level with your sofa seat, or up to about 10 cm lower.
• Distance: leave about 45 cm between the sofa and the table. You can still reach your drink, with room for your legs.
• Shape: a round table has no corners to bump into, which helps with children. In front of a corner sofa, a rectangular table follows the lines better.
• Glass tops: with small children, ask whether a glass top is tempered, because tempered glass breaks into small pieces instead of sharp shards.

Common mistakes when choosing a coffee table

• Too tall: a table higher than the seat is awkward to reach and looks too big.
• Too close to the sofa: it leaves no room for your legs when you sit down.
• Expecting high gloss to stay spotless: a glossy top shows fingerprints, so plan to wipe it often.

Caring for your coffee table

Wipe mango wood with a dry or slightly damp cloth, and use coasters. Clean glass with a soft cloth and a little glass cleaner. Do not put hot or sharp things straight on the glass.
