Wardrobes

How to choose a wardrobe
- Depth for hanging: a hanger is about 45 cm wide, so a hanging rail needs a wardrobe at least about 50 cm deep. Most of ours with a rail are 52 to 60 cm deep. Shallower wardrobes suit folded clothes on shelves.
- Hinged or sliding doors: a hinged door needs free floor in front about as wide as the door itself. Sliding doors need none, so the wardrobe can stand close to the bed.
- Compare the two: sliding doors open one side at a time. Hinged doors show the whole inside at once.
- The inside: rails for shirts and dresses, shelves for folded clothes, drawers for small things. Many of ours combine all three.
- Fix it to the wall: a tall wardrobe must be secured with the wall fixing supplied, especially in a child's room.
Common mistakes when choosing a wardrobe
- Choosing a shallow wardrobe for hanging clothes: a hanger needs that depth to fit across the wardrobe. Our shallowest models are made for shelves.
- No room for the doors: hinged doors that hit the bed only open halfway. Measure the gap in front first.
- Forgetting the ceiling: a flat-pack wardrobe is usually built lying down and then tilted up. Check the room height against the assembly instructions.
- Not measuring the route in: large panels have to pass through your hallway and stairs. Check the box sizes before you order.
What size wardrobe for a small bedroom?
If there is little room between the bed and the wardrobe, choose sliding doors. A hinged door needs free floor about as wide as the door. A one-door wardrobe fits beside a door or at the end of a bed. Leave enough room in front to walk past.
Dimensions and materials
- Width: about 50 cm to almost 270 cm. For a 40 cm gap, see our one-door storage cabinets.
- Height: mostly 180 to 210 cm.
- Depth: about 35 to 60 cm, with a few deeper.
- Doors: one to six, hinged or sliding, some with a full-length mirror.
- Finishes: white, Sonoma oak (a light oak look), grey oak, artisan oak, anthracite (dark grey), cashmere (a light grey-beige) and beige, often in two-tone combinations.
Caring for your wardrobe
Wipe the doors and panels with a dry or slightly damp cloth, and avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners. Do not leave water on the surface. For a stubborn stain, use mild soapy water and dry it well.
Our range of wardrobes
- For children: red wardrobes shaped like a petrol pump and a phone box, and white wardrobes with a cut-out heart.
- Hinged wardrobes: one to six doors, many with drawers. Some come in four, five or six doors at the same height, so you can pick the width that fits your wall.
- Sliding-door wardrobes: often with a full-length mirror.

Frequently asked questions
How big are wardrobes?
Ours run from about 50 cm to almost 270 cm wide, and most are 180 to 210 cm high.
Which wardrobe suits a small bedroom?
It depends on the room in front. With little space between the bed and the wardrobe, choose sliding doors, from about 120 cm wide. For a narrow wall, a hinged one-door wardrobe fits.
How do you arrange the inside of a wardrobe?
Hang shirts and dresses, fold jumpers and linen onto shelves, and keep socks and underwear in drawers.
Which colour wardrobe should you choose?
Most of ours are white or oak, and some are beige, cashmere or grey, often in two-tone combinations. White makes a small bedroom feel larger.
How much space do you need in front of a wardrobe?
Hinged doors need about the width of one door. Sliding doors need none. Add space to walk past.
