How to choose a dresser

• Depth: check the depth against the space beside the bed or in the hallway. A deeper dresser holds more but narrows the room.
• Space for the drawers: leave enough room to stand in front of the fully open drawers.
• Drawers or doors: drawers suit folded clothes. Doors suit bulkier items such as bedding.
• Wall fixing: every dresser should be fixed to the wall with the supplied fitting, especially in a child's room.

Common mistakes when choosing a dresser

• Heavy things in the top drawers: keep the heaviest items in the lowest drawers.
• Overfilling the drawers: heavy, overfull drawers strain the runners. Spread clothes across all the drawers.
• Forgetting the skirting board: it pushes the dresser a few centimetres from the wall, so allow for it when you measure.
