How to choose chairs

• Type first: dining chairs, office chairs and bar stools are made for different heights. Pick the type for the table, desk or counter it goes with.
• The gap to the surface: for bar stools, leave 25 to 30 cm between the seat and the underside of the counter.
• Overall width: arms and angled legs make a chair wider than its seat. Measure the whole chair.
• Material: plastic and faux leather wipe clean. Fabric, velvet and bouclé feel softer but need more care.

Common mistakes when choosing chairs

• Buying on looks alone: a chair that does not suit the table height leaves your knees against the table.
• Too many chairs for the table: each person needs about 60 cm of table edge.
• Not measuring the route in: measure the doors on the way in before you order, especially for an armchair.

• Dining chairs: 42 to 58 cm wide, with seats 44 to 50 cm high.
• Office chairs: 51 to 65 cm wide.
• Bar stools: a seat 78 cm high.
• Materials: velvet, bouclé, fabric, PU (faux leather) and plastic.
• Colours: grey, beige, green, black, blue, pink, cognac and more.

Caring for your chairs

Vacuum fabric seats with a soft brush, and dab stains straight away with a slightly damp cloth. Wipe PU seats with a soft, damp cloth. On office chairs, clear dust and hair from the castors now and then.
