Shelves
2 resultsOur shelf is about 79 cm long, in natural pine, so measure the free wall first. Hang it above a desk for books and folders, or above a bed for a lamp and a few favourite things. For more storage, see our bookcases and cube storage.
How to choose a wall shelf
- Check your wall: brick, concrete and plasterboard each need their own plugs. On plasterboard, use cavity plugs or screw into a wooden stud.
- Spread the weight: put heavier books near the brackets, where the shelf is strongest.
- Where it goes: above a desk it holds books and folders. Above a bed, keep it to light things such as a lamp or a few favourites.
Common mistakes when choosing a wall shelf
- Using the wrong plugs: ordinary plugs in plasterboard can pull out under load.
- Heavy items above a bed: keep heavy books on a shelf that does not hang over where you sleep.
