How to choose a 3-door wardrobe

• Width: measure the wall, then leave a few centimetres at each side for the doors and the skirting board.
• Hanging and shelves: check which side holds the rail and how many shelves sit behind the third door.
• Door swing: hinged doors need free floor about as wide as each door. Check that the bed or a radiator does not block them.
• Drawers or a mirror: drawers keep small things tidy, and a mirror saves wall space.

Common mistakes when choosing a 3-door wardrobe

• Forgetting the ceiling: a flat-pack wardrobe is usually built lying down and then tilted up. Check the room height against the assembly instructions.
• Skipping the wall fixing: tall wardrobes must be fixed to the wall with the fitting supplied.
• Too little hanging space: one rail behind two doors suits most people. Check it against your coats and dresses.
